Large Kitchen Review

Large Kitchen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As my kids began to outgrow their Discover Sounds kitchen, I began scouting around new kitchens. I checked out the many plastic molded kitchens, but opted to go the wood kitchen route. Of the wood kitchens, this is far and away the nicest, best equipped, and most attractive kitchen I've found. The sink is removable and can actually be filled with water. The faucet swivels, the clock hands are movable, there are two shelves in the cabinet beneath the sink for storage, two shelves in the refrigerator (in addition to the freezer compartment on top), and a white grooved shelf in the oven that serves as the removable oven rack.
There is room for lots and lots of playfood, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and small appliances. I love that the color scheme is suitable for both boys and girls, and much more appealing than the more institutional-looking wood kitchens.
The assembled kitchen is approximately 42" wide X 43" high X 16" deep (excluding handles and knobs). It took my husband and I over an hour to assemble, and as each additional piece gets attached, it locks the piece together very solidly.
There is room for multiple children to play simultaneously, as my children often do. It is a major piece of our playroom, and an integral part of my kids' day-to-day play.

Melissa and Doug Cook's Corner Wooden Kitchen Review

Melissa and Doug Cook's Corner Wooden Kitchen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this Melissa and Doug Kitchen along with the Plan Refrigerator. Had thought about buying all Plan for our 2 yr little girl, but cost more than we were willing to spend. Worked out great. The Cook's corner kitchen had everything she needed(minus the fridge) and was a lot less expensive. Although is appears to be built from some sort of high quality plywood...it is sturdy and looks nice. Though probably not as high end as some of the Plan products...Melissa and Doug has quite remarkable customer service and an overall good quality product....Nice to be able to trust the company you buy your child's toy's from.

I actually bought the table and chairs... but wanted to say they seem to be great quality. There was some damage in shipping, and when I called Little Colorado they were INCREDIBLE. The NICEST customer service- and didn't hesitate to send out a replacement part. Will DEFINITELY buy from them again.

We got this kitchen for my 2year old for Christmas. It took a LONG time to put together, but it was worth it! It is super cute and appears to be sturdy and well made. All the bolts are color coded, so not only do you know you're using the right ones, they match the kitchen color, too. (The bolts on the pink part are pink...)My 2 girls play with this kitchen non-stop and we have had no problems with it. I got some matching baskets to go in the little cubbies and the refrigerator to hold all their stuff. The only complaint I have is that the towel bar keeps falling off. I would highly recommend this kitchen.

Little Tikes Deluxe Wooden Kitchen and Laundry Center Review

Little Tikes Deluxe Wooden Kitchen and Laundry Center
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The kitchen is very cute. I bought it for my daughter. I like that it was not all plastic (although it does contain particle board and wood veneer...so if you are looking for 100% wood, this is NOT it), it wasn't overly girly, and it included both kitchen AND laundry accessories.
Some pictures of this product on the web show metal-looking accessories. This is inaccurate...all accessories (pots, pans, phone, laundry basket, etc.) are made of plastic. Also, the door handles, clock, and knobs are made of plastic as well.
My daughter (2.5 years old) loves this kitchen/laundry center - especially the bell that "dings" when the laundry is "done." The knobs also make a clicking noise when you turn them. A larger kid might enjoy a larger kitchen but this fits great into our living area and is a fine size for my daughter.
The dimensions of our finished product were:
Height = appx 41"
Depth = appx 14"
Length (with ironing board out) = appx 45"
Countertop height (where the sink/stovetop are) = appx 20"
I have two minor complaints:
1. Assembly: I am a Mom who is 7 months pregnant. I'm no engineer. I felt like "Mom the Builder" as I was putting the thing together. It wasn't difficult and everything was well-labeled, but it was tedious. The instructions do not have words - just pictures (43 steps in all!), but they were easy to understand. It took me about 4 hours to assemble the whole thing on my own (no assistance from my husband). All in all it was easy to assemble, it just took a loooong time.
2. The CAMS (or "tumbler locks?") that are used in assembly: When you tighten the cams "tumbler/turn locks" that are used to hold together various pieces around a screw, DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM TOO MUCH. I've assembled a lot of furniture in recent months with similar cams and I'm familiar with how they work. I don't over-tighten them and plus, I'm not overly strong, but when I hand-tightened them, some of the veneer almost split on the outside - indicating some of the wood (or wood-pulp) on the inside of the piece of wood was breaking. Oops. My husband said he could put some wood putty on there and it's not as though there were TONS of cams, but for the few you do have to use: DO NOT TIGHTEN THEM a lot and watch to be sure the wood on the other side of the cam doesn't start to poke/break through.
Even with the cam issue, the piece - once assembled- seems sturdy. You can attach it to the wall if you are concerned about it falling on your child, but at this point, that doesn't seem like an issue where we've placed it in our home. We'll see how it holds up for my toddler in a few months, but for now, we are pleased with this product and would buy it again! As my husband just mentioned (after watching our daughter play): I think this will turn out to be a very worthwhile purchase.

KidKraft Red Vintage Kitchen Review

KidKraft Red Vintage Kitchen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I'll talk about assembly of the kitchen. Then, I'll talk about the kitchen itself.
============
ASSEMBLY
============
You'll see several other reviewers talk about the difficult assembly of this product. Make no mistakes, putting this together is a non-trivial task, but I have to applaud KidKraft for the thought they put into the packaging to make the assembly as pain-free as possible. If you've never done this sort of furniture construction before, then building this is outside of your league, but anyone familiar with Ikea-type furniture should not have significant problems.
To wit:
* All parts are labelled with a letter in the instructions, and each part has a sticker affixed to it with the same letter. Makes identification of each part MUCH easier.
* All screws/bolts/washers/etc are packaged in a "compartmentalized" plastic clamshell container. This makes it much easier to keep your 5mm screws from mixing with your 7mm screws. Anyone familiar with d.i.y furniture construction (from Ikea, et al), will know the aggravation that comes with having these tiny parts come in one big plastic bag.
* Assembly directions have big, clear illustrations (no text) with zoomed-in detail drawings when appropriate.
* Great customer service. A big insert repeatedly says to "Call us!" if you have any problems whatsoever with assembly. Turns out one of the pieces in my kit was chipped. I went online to kidkraft's website, and within 5 minutes had ordered a replacement part totally free of charge. (NOTE: I ordered it 2 days ago and shipping is stated at 7-10 days. We'll see if they are able to follow through as promised.)
====================
ASSEMBLY SUGGESTIONS
====================
Most of the assembly can be handled by one person, although there were a couple of parts (hanging the doors, etc) where a 2nd pair of hands is useful. Total assembly time by myself (with occasional help) was about 3-4 hours. I found the following tools to be real time-savers:
* A powered screwdriver. You need a phillips head screwdriver. Using a cordless driver obviously saves time.
* Your own hex allen wrench. They provide a little one, but the simple one I own (for my bicycle) is easier to handle.
* Small-sized phillips screwdriver (aka jeweller's or electronics screwdriver). There are several screws that are quite small. Having a smaller screwdriver will make your life easier.
* Box cutter or other cutting tool. There is a lot of tape in the packaging. (Styrofoam taped to pieces, etc).
===========
THE KITCHEN
===========
Ok, so once you've built it, how does it measure up? I gotta say, this thing looks even better in person than it does in the product photos. The detailing is really cute, and there are a bunch of extra touches: a "cordless" phone; the oven/stove knobs click when you turn them; the turntable in the microwave really turns; the oven and microwave doors are both see-through, so your kid can see whats in them; water dispenser on fridge; and so on and so forth. Also, the kitchen feels sturdy and well-made, so I'm hopeful that it will stand up to the abuse from a little dude.
However, the best endorsement is from my 2-year-old son: He absolutely loves it and will play with it for hours and hours.
=========
SUMMARY
=========
This is a GREAT play kitchen for kids and I'm thrilled with the purchase. This is our first KidKraft purchase, but I am so happy with it that (barring unforeseen issues), KidKraft has earned itself a loyal repeat customer.

KidKraft Deluxe Big & Bright Kitchen Review

KidKraft Deluxe Big and Bright Kitchen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I went back and forth between buying the Bright & Bold kitchen versus the more subtle, pastel KidKraft kitchen. The ONLY reason I went with the Bright & Bold set was due to the fact that it is advertised as "made of wood" while the pastel kitchen description notes it is made of composite wood. This language is found both on Amazon and on the KidKraft website. The Bright & Bold kitchen is NOT 100% solid wood, there are composite wood components--i.e. pressed wood. Some of the pieces may be solid wood, but a lot of them are not. The back of the kitchen is made of slide-in panels that are either really study cardboard or flimsy wood paneling. However, the hardware used to construct the pieces use the screw and hex nut system--where you put the nut into a pre-drilled hole and then thread the bolt through another pre-drilled hole, so that the metal bolt and metal nut are holding the pieces together--you do not have to worry about stripping a screw into a piece of pressed wood. There are only 6 screws that screw directly into the wood.
I ordered my kitchen a month in advance of my daughter's birthday in case I needed replacement parts as other reviewers noted. I needed 5 replacement pieces. Various pieces had chunks of pressed wood missing, and the solid wood phone rest was chipped and cracked. The paint is also a little less than top-notch. Apparently the pieces are painted a solid color and then the fake phone pad and the fake ice/water dispenser are applied and then a glaze is put on over these fake areas--all of these areas had a sloppy, glossy sheen over them while the other areas had more of a matte finish. I really do think the paint job could have been better.
Having said all of that, and keeping in mind this is a toy not a piece of furniture, I was really thrilled with the end product as well as the ease in ordering the replacement parts through the KidKraft website. I never had to speak to a customer service rep, I simply ordered my replacement parts online with no costs associated.
It did take me about 3 hours to put this together on my own (it would have been nice to have another set of hands for a few of the steps, but obviously not necessary). The amount of hardware was intimidating at first, but all of the kitchen pieces are clearly labeled (although you have to use a chart to figure out the hardware pieces--not super difficult, just time-consuming). Once I received the replacement parts, I basically had to take the entire kitchen apart and rebuild it, but it only took about an hour and a half the second time through (all of the busy work of attaching handles and locking mechanisms did not have to be repeated).
Last things, the freezer, refrigerator, and microwave open up like normal ones do. However, the oven and dishwasher open up the same way--like the refrigerator door in the picture, not from top to bottom, like real oven doors and dishwashers. This seemed very weird to me at first, but I figure the manufacturer must have thought children might try to sit or stand on the doors if they were constructed like that and certainly break them off quite quickly. Also, all of the doors have a plastic locking system that has a straight plastic piece that "locks" into a set of plastic wheels, you really have to tug and push, I think, to get the doors opened and closed. I think it would have made a lot more sense to use magnetic locks, and may eventually install them myself if the kids have trouble with the plastic locks.
Lastly, as far as accessories, I was a little disappointed to find that KidKraft doesn't offer any kitchen appliances in the Bright & Bold colors, only the pastel colors. I turned out to be really happy with the Bright & Bold colors.
We haven't given this to our daughter yet, but we don't have to wait to know that she and her siblings are going to love it. Even though I was disappointed that the kitchen was not solid wood, and that I had to go through the extra step of ordering and installing replacement parts, this kitchen is just too cute to be mad at! Just order the kitchen with enough time to order replacement parts in case you need them (the replacement parts took about 9 days to get).

Purchased this toy for my 3 year old granddaughter. It is super cute and has a lot of cool features (lights and sounds, came with a nice supply of food, pots and pans). She can play supermarket or kitchen or cafe and she loves using the cash register to ring you up. I forsee this bringing years of fun.
One critique, it is a PAIN to set up. It has about 20 steps and the holes for screws are not pre-drilled. Allot at least two hours for set up because forcing a three year old to wait for their present is not fun. Also, the stove top is a bit slick and the pots and pans tend to slide off.

Kidkraft Deluxe Let's Cook Kitchen Review

Kidkraft Deluxe Let's Cook Kitchen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was a little skeptical about the price, but if you shop around you will find that the good plastic kitchens are $70+ dollars. This one is wood (not solid wood). You have to put it together yourself. All the pieces are well labeled. It is easy to do. If you have ever assembled furniture, you will find this much easier. It is heavy to move by yourself, but you will not have to worry about this kitchen falling over.
The bright colors make it a good choice for boys or girls. It is a good size for older children to use and for 2 to 3 children to play with at the same time. This is better for children ages 4-8.
After moving it for the summer to be shared by toddlers and summer day care students it has lost all doors. The screws no longer stay in and the part that holds the door won't stay on. This is because younger children slam and swing on doors and want to climb on the kitchen.

KidKraft Cook Together Kitchen Review

KidKraft Cook Together Kitchen
Average Reviews:

I bought this kitchen for my two-year-old daughter this past Christmas, so she's been able to play with it for about four months now. Unfortunately, I think I wasted my money. I'm probably going to sell or give this one away and get a different kitchen. :(
It is an adorable kitchen and seems sturdy. The problem is the functionality. The kitchen has a narrow depth. Only 13" compared to Melissa and Doug's 17.5". This means there is not much counter space, but the worst part is that the kids really can't use the oven or dishwasher. Basically, they just have to throw food/pans/etc. in the space and shut the door. The oven and dishwasher do not have shelves. And because of the narrow depth, things like the Melissa and Doug cookie sheet have to be sat vertically in order to fit in the oven or dishwasher. Even the PBK pans we have need to be sat in the oven vertically. My daughter does not even use the bottom half of this kitchen. What a waste!
It would have been better if they got rid of the laundry and divided that extra space equally between the oven and dishwasher and added shelves. But they didn't, so here with are with this cute kitchen that doesn't really serve it's purpose.

We bought this kitchen for our daughter's second birthday. It is very cute and she loves it. It was easy to assemble, however my husband and I have assembled quite a few things so maybe we are biased? My only complaint is that it is on the small side. The Melissa and Doug cookie sheet does not fit in the oven and I know another Kidkraft kitchen can accommodate it. Even though it is small it is perfect for our daughter and our townhouse. I would recommend this kitchen, however an older child would have to play on their knees.

Educo My Creative Cookery Club Review

Educo My Creative Cookery Club
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, so let me just say that I shopped around, to say the least, before deciding on this kitchen for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I actually bid on and paid for the KidKraft Large Kitchen, but for the first time in my ebay history, the seller dissappeared. No money, no kitchen. Anyways, so maybe having set my heart on the hefty Kidkraft kitchen had me a bit set up when I received this one.
Don't get me wrong, it is adorable! And I absolutely love all of the accessories that come with it - fantastic! We supplemented the wooden food supply and bought a set of silverware (all from Target) and it is the pieces that came with this kitchen that I consistently find my daughter playing with. She especially loves the salt and pepper shakers and the pegs for hanging some of the items on. She is always bringing me something to eat on the plates, as well. I think she agrees with me, the wood of this kitchen and its pieces just feels really good to the hand - it has a satiny clean feel to it.
My parents had recommended laquering it to protect it against water stains. Heck no! I had been completely committed to not getting a huge plastic monstrosity, no matter how many bells and whistles it had. Actually I think the bells and whistles do children a disservice by encouraging creative laziness. So, the fact that this kitchen is all wood, clean, nontoxic, I really love that!
Its also important to mention that assembly was easy and impressive. The entire deal goes together with less than a dozen screws. Its almost like a puzzle and I appreciated the ingenuity of its construction.
So what don't I like? It is a lot smaller than I envisioned. My daughter isn't that tall, but she is almost too tall to comfortably access the oven and other door. They just sort of disappear. Also, for the price, it does seem to be a bit flimsy - only time will tell whether that is the case or just a perception. I've also been dissappointed that the sink didn't come with a removable bowl like so many other kitchens. It doesn't seem to bother my daughter who is forever washing her hands there, but I wonder how long that will last.
Basically, I think it is a wonderful kitchen for the young toddler years. Everything is soft and curved and light. Everything fits in little hands and feels good, too. It is wonderful to have all of the coordinating pieces and it really is just the cutest thing you've ever seen!
However, I wouldn't recommend it for older or multiple children. I expect to upgrade to a bigger, heavier-duty kitchen sometime in the future.
