(More customer reviews)I bought this toy (and the turtle one) for my twins, who are almost 3 years old. I bought them because mazes are a pre-writing activity, and I thought a magnetic maze would help my kids understand that they have to follow the paths, not cross them. The kids like the mazes ok, but I think they'll enjoy them more when they're older. There are two things that are disappointing to me about these: 1) my kids quickly learned how to detach the blue magnet tool (easily reattached, but it means I have to keep track of them), and 2) if they hold the blue tool in the correct pencil position (at a bit of an angle), it loses magnetic connection with the ball. The tool has to be held straight up and down to maintain magnet connection, which does not help them with correct pencil position.
I'm still glad I bought these, though. They are a great self-contained toy for travel. My kids do understand the concept of getting the balls into the correct color slots, and within a year, their fine motor skills will be at the perfect level for controlling the blue tool. The mazes are very colorful, which they obviously like, and the puzzles appear well-made. I just bought them a little too early, I think.
