(More customer reviews)I bought this product as a Christmas present for my 9-year-old brother and sister, and they still haven't stopped playing with the devices. They even recruited a few friends around the block to join in - responding to a comment made earlier, I'm pretty sure not all of these neighborhood kids have devices, so I'm positive the PC clients works well. Regardless, the IM Me's are simple to use - my bother and sister even set them up largely on their own. I can't say enough about the educational value. I'm big believer in encouraging young minds to take advantage of technology (I wish I was encouraged as a child), and both my bother and sister are proving increasing savvy with the help of the IM Me. They're all set for the future.
The kicker for me was security. I must say I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so the ability to set up a fixed group of chatting partners is vastly preferable to the open IM programs where you never know who's going to contact a child.
The bottom line is that the device is a great piece of technology, providing the longest interactive experience my bother and sister have had in a long time (and sturdy... both devices have been dropped a few times already and still work great). I might even buy one for myself so they can communicate with me at a distance... I can join the fun!
