I got this for my 7 yr old's birthday as the box says 6 and up. It takes 4 AA batteries and then plugs into your TV. It helped that we have a TV with the jacks in front. We set the TV to Auxillary, then turned the handset on. The game loaded easily. Then I had to spend the next day figuring out the game for myself, so I could show my kid what to do. I found navigation confusing at times and the manual was not very helpful. Also, one of the drawbacks is no "exit" once you've started a game or activity and want to get out of it. My kid still requires some help because of (1) confusion on how to navigate the game, (2) it's unclear how to complete some of the games and activities, and (3) having to read certain onscreen directions. That is why young kids will need help with this game. My kid (a true Littlest Pet Shop aficionado) still likes this game though and enjoys playing it. I would rate the graphics and sound as fair.
