Melissa & Doug Deluxe Fishbowl Fill & Spill Soft Baby Toy Review

Melissa and Doug Deluxe Fishbowl Fill and Spill Soft Baby Toy
Average Reviews:

Better than burried treasure, this fill and spill is a real find. Each creature has a unique feature and is brightly colored. Perfect for tiny hands, each day we find something different to enjoy. Some days the rattle of the octopuss is a favorite, and some days the squeak of the starfish makes us smile. And putting the pieces in and out of the little aquarium is endlessly entertaining. Everything seems well stitched and looks like it will last.

Activity Tunnel Review

Activity Tunnel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My child started crawling at 6 months and soon after was pulling up. I thought that this tunnel along with the climbing wall was would be perfect for him. The first day I brought is home my child pulled it on top of him self. It is very unsturdy. Now that my child has a little more control he can pull himself on it without falling but that took him a little while. We do play peek-a-boo with the side curtains and he has learned to crawl under the sides (commando style) which has been fun to watch. The climbing wall I bought with this was a much better purchase and I do recommend that.

Melissa & Doug Shapes Sound Puzzle Review

This is a great puzzle! The voice speaking the names of each shape is very clear, and my 2 year old is learning his shapes using it! The puzzle says the shape name, and then he repeats it. Teaches beyond the circle, square, triangle! Very good learning tool! Seems durable, and batteries are lasting quite a while.

Melissa & Doug Large Shapes Jumbo Puzzle Review

[...]
the fronts of all the pieces have stickers (versus being painted on (w/ vegetable dye)like Haba does with their toys) so after my son chewed off half of a piece's sticker and was swallowing it all within 5 mins, i had to take it away from him
i discovered another sign that it's too cheaply made when after i took it away from my son- he was covered in saw dust!!! turns out the thing is made of PARTICLE BOARD and the sides are not sealed so it's slightly rough and when my son rubbed his hand on it, saw dust comes off... which is messy, but more importantly- dangerous! the inside of each shape on the board is also unfinished without any kind of sealant so saw dust comes from there too!
if they had spent a bit more (and charged a bit more) they could have created a well made, safe great toy but doug and melissa have blundered on this one

iPlay Super Shapes Dump Truck Review

iPlay Super Shapes Dump Truck
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although my kids have gotten their hand stuck once or twice in the truck, it really wasn't a big deal. I just helped them open their hand and pull it out. Honestly, I never thought about it twice because this is really a great toy. My son got it for his 1st birthday and still plays with it at four years because it's so many toys in one: a truck with a driver, a shape sorter, a "dump truck" of sorts (back opens up), a handyman toy (buttons are in tool shape and make corresponding sounds). The little shapes expand to animals, which is my son's favorite feature. The only downside is that after 3 years of extensive use, they are starting to get stuck, but the rest of the truck still works great, while I've probably thrown away every other toy he's had since age one.
I recommend this toy and would give it to a friend's kid myself.

The Super Shapes Dump Truck is just what its name says it is - super! This durable, plastic toy dump truck stimulates young ones in a variety of ways, first being through shape sorting. The colorful shapes slide through the holes in the trunk, but they also turn into creative animal creatures like an elephant, turtle, duck and bird for even more play. Children also can hear great sounds by pressing the horn to hear it beep and play three melodies. Press the seat to hear the toy dump truck engine sound and drive away. Pretend play comes alive with the jackhammer, saw, drill, hammer and shoveling sounds the Super Shapes Dump Truck makes. The Super Shapes Dump Truck also features a level that dumps the shapes from the body of the toy truck to start all over again.

The Original Colorforms Set Review

The Original Colorforms Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this toy for my daughter when she was 2.5 years old. She loved it from the start and still plays with it often six months later. At this age, she doesn't make the type of pictures that older kids would, but she likes arranging the pieces on the floor or on the included boards. When she gets older, I expect that she will like making pictures, too.
Our pieces stick well to the boards. The stick even better to each other, so when you make a pile of pieces when cleaning up, they stay together nicely.
I think any kid that enjoys stickers will have fun with Colorforms. A big advantage that Colorforms have is that you have the option of picking up and moving the shapes. Plus, you don't have to worry about Colorforms being annoyingly stuck to things like furniture and trying to scrape them off.
One good tip I got before buying this set is to NOT discard the extra vinyl between the shapes. You can cut extra shapes from this material - such as crescents (great for smiles on faces), stars, flowers, etc.
The only negative of this toy is that after six months of use, the corners of the boards are looking a bit frayed, but after that much use from a toddler, that is understandable.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Bug Jug Fill & Spill Soft Baby Toy Review

Melissa and Doug Deluxe Bug Jug Fill and Spill Soft Baby Toy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My daughter is 9 months old and she loved the Melissa and Doug Fill and Spill Lunchbox so much that I bought her this as well. This is as good - maybe even better - than the lunch box.
The bugs all have at least one "manipulative" element:
- grasshopper - legs to grab, corduroy tummy, knotty antenna, crinkly wings, rattler
- spider - lots of legs to grab, corduroy tummy, jingly thing
- lady bug - crinkly wings, corduroy tummy, knotty antenna, squeeker
- butterfly - crinkly wings, corduroy tummy, knotty antenna, rattler
The "jar" also has a mesh fabric top (like a real bug jar) which is another sensory element that adds to the fun. My daughter loves pulling all the bugs out of the jar one by one and then offering them to my husband or I so she can have a free hand to pull out another one.
This is my new go-to present for all 1st birthday parties!

Melissa & Doug Pets Touch and Feel Puzzle Review

Melissa and Doug Pets Touch and Feel Puzzle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Big pieces are easy for little hands to manipulate; the puzzle itself is cute with different textures. I use it to teach animal names and sounds to my twins. It seems durable but we've only had it a short period. My 15mo old twins play with it every day. My 3 year old occasionally plays with it but only because her sisters are. She doesn't really have much interest.

Magnetic MightyMind Review

Magnetic MightyMind
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My 3-yr-old liked this game. He even continued with it after I got interrupted, and was excited to show me how he'd put the shapes together as required. I bought the magnetic version for traveling in the car, but the magnets have fallen off. I pressed them on carefully, but they just don't stick well. At least the game can still be played without them, but I had expected better quality...I'd assumed the tiles themselves would have a magnet sealed inside. So with this version you're just paying extra to stick little magnets onto the tiles yourself.

Melissa & Doug Pattern Blocks and Boards Review

Melissa and Doug Pattern Blocks and Boards
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this toy because my children loved to play with pattern blocks at science and art museums. This was the only toy I found with real wood blocks that were the size and feel of the toys they had played with earlier. Using the blocks alone, my children loved to create an endless number of beautiful geometric patterns. The toy encourages creativity and promotes mathematical thinking.
My daughter, who was five or six at the time, tried using the picture boards. At her age, she was able to do it although it was frustrating when the pieces moved out of place. For awhile, she thought that she had to use the picture boards in order to play with the toy properly. Once she got over that, we had a wonderful toy again.
If you throw away the picture boards from the beginning and let your child's creativity take over, you have a 5 star toy that even older children and adults enjoy tinkering with.
