(More customer reviews)We have several boxes of these Melissa And Doug bead sets b/c we just can't get enough of them! My three children (twin boys - one girl) love to sit and make necklaces over and over again! YES! My boys love this too!!! It's a great exercise for their fine motor skills! The patience they have all developed to sit and string these small beads together is wonderful! It's great practice for them as they create different patterns with each new necklace. I suggest getting a few boxes - especially if you have more than one child playing with them at the same time. Our favorite set includes letters so they can each spell out their own name or other words.
**Not suggested for small children who will mistake them for pieces of candy.

(More customer reviews)My 2-year old son was interested in the toy from the moment he saw it. He enjoys stringing the beads and then dragging then around on the string. He can be entertained with it for quite a long time. The colors and shapes are fun and attractive.
The quality of the product leaves something to be desired. After playing with the beads on a hardwood floor for one evening, the paint has begun to rub off the edges of the pieces. The holes in the pieces are not sanded finely enough, so sometimes the string gets snagged when one tries to pull it through. Also, and I don't know if that is intentional, or if any other similar product does it differently, but the piece of the rope that is covered in plastic is too short: you have to hold the string about 1 inch away from the plastic covered part to fit it into the bead to be able to grab the string on the other end. An adult can do it of course, but it's hard to do for a 2-yo.

(More customer reviews)I love this toy - and my 22-month-old twins do as well. I would just caution that the two smallest beads, while the size of very small plums, are still just small enough that they could get lodged in your toddler's mouth if they were inclined to try to get the whole thing in. I wouldn't trust my kids with this toy unsupervised for at least a few months yet (or will only let them play with the half of the beads that are substantially larger.

(More customer reviews)We purchased these for my son for christmas after using them at our local children's museum. My son loves using the wooden needle to thread the beads along and now that we are working on letter sounds building some words. The colors are bright and attractive. I love the fact that the alex brand uses a lace with a wooden needle at the end. It really makes it easier for little hands to manipulate. When he has playdates kids tend to gravitate towards this toy which I keep stored in a tin bucket. This toy does not come with a carry-case or box to keep it in which is a bit of a downside. I would still purchase this again and I'm considering ordering a complimentory set for easter.
