As far as I can see, most of other reviewers seem to like this kitchen. This makes it a bit difficult for me to argue my case, but I'll try nevertheless. In my opinion, this is one of the least friendly, lowest-quality toys I've ever encountered.
To begin with, if you are planning to surprise your kid with this toy, make sure you have at least 2-3 hours in advance to assemble it. What you buy is not an assembled toy and not even a set of blocks. What you get is a set of molded plastic frames containing various pieces that you have to detach from the frames and assemble. I pride myself as being a do-it-yourself kind of person, yet the process of assembling this thing makes putting IKEA furniture together sound like a summer vacation. Now imagine having your 3-year old waiting impatiently for the toy to appear from the box and instead seeing the sheets of molded plastic and being told to wait "a bit." You get the idea.
This leads me to the other big issue with this kitchen - the quality of the product. You get a bunch of molded plastic parts. At least in my case, some of those parts were somewhat crooked and misshapen (doors in particular). Even though I was still able to assemble them, they still look somewhat crooked and they don't fit well. By Murphy's Law, the most deformed is the oven door the one that opens downward, which means it never closes too well and swings open on every possible occasion. I'm yet to devise some solution for this problem, and my daughter is yet to hear a plausible explanation why her pies are constantly undercooked.
On to the worst feature of this "toy." As I have mentioned above, you get just sheets of molded plastic with parts being attached to the frames in various places - something similar to the toy replicas of planes I used to assemble when I was a kid. Never mind that detaching parts from the frame is difficult, even using big scissors. The problem is that once detached, parts have very sharp "stumps" in the places of attachment. In some cases, those stumps prevent tight assembly of the parts. Worse, in many cases, these sharp jagged stumps are on the surfaces that children will be playing with. Now imagine your kid sampling the "soup" using the spoon that has such a sharp spike on the tip (all spoons do). I am not even talking about the way those stumps tend to damage clothes. To remove them, one needs some kind of coarse-grained file - not the kind of tool readily available in many households. The effort to get that part right will probably require some extra 40 minutes. Until then, my kid is playing with these "kid-friendly" utensils, already having scratched herself a couple times. Ideally, I should have taken the toy away until it is sufficiently safe for her, but I dare anyone to try doing it to a 3-year old.
Once assembled, the kitchen looks merely "OK." It doesn't have many features, but that's fine - I do believe that a toy kitchen should be just that - a toy, not a behemoth with a real CD player and speakers or an I-can't-believe-it-is-not-real cellphone. But the main problem is the quality of the product - I don't know how good or bad other toy kitchens are (unfortunately, I didn't do any research prior to the purchase), but this particular product is quite sub-par and I will never recommend it to anyone.
