EDUCATIONAL value: My five-year old loves to make bracelets and necklaces and the beads are a good size for her. They help improve her fine motor skills.
Very durable. I think you would have a difficult time finding another child's bead kit that is more durable than the M&D bead kits.
WANT-IT factor: I love the way these kits are packaged with permanent boxes so children can store unused beads or even their newly made treasures.
Now the OOPS factor: There is a hole drilled through each of the hearts for the string to thread through. The hole is drilled too low on the heart. When my daughter puts on the necklace, the heart immediately turns upside down. No matter what we did, as soon as she put it on, it flipped upside down. I thought this was a fluke so we tried another heart and the same thing happened. This does not happen as frequently with the elongated shaped hearts, but it still happens. It could possibly be a defective kit, but it seems strange that most of the hearts would have the same problem. I will probably buy something to screw on to the top of the heart so we can be assured of right-side-up hearts.
