He can't put them together, but he learns alot just playing with them and pulling off pieces and reinserting them. He sees it as a puzzle AND an action figure.
The "golden bionicle" thing is interesting. All in all it's a red bionicle (his set TAHU) with some gold accents offered through the rest of the STARS line. The pieces are all listed on the back of the box if you want to get specific ones (or extras).
I'm addicted to the toys myself, so the gold pieces are just bonus. Flame sword is almost as big as the character! The 4 limbs move really well and are pretty poseable even though each limb is a rigid structure with only 2 joints (shoulder/wrist, hip/ankle).
Tahu's head moves up and down well, but he can't look too far left or right. His shoulders get in the way. Tahu's head (not mask) is also the older bionicle head (longer, goofy looking thing) vice the ironman style head.
This is a great starter kit as you get the golden mask version of his red one AND he's a great toy.
Durability -1 for head poseability and one of the legs' hip sockets got a crack in it. Really a bummer as I've only moved his leg pieces around a few times.
